Marcelle: Mic check. Mic check. I’m a teacher of immigrants. My students are struggling with reading at a third grade level. Many of them are undocumented. They have to pass the same tests that everyone else does. I struggle every day keeping them motivated and wanting to come to school. Because they know, just as I know, that the system is set up to keep them oppressed.
