Fauja Singh

Fauja Singh celebrated his 99th birthday on April 1, 2010. He was still in excellent condition — walking or running 7-10 miles every day and having a session with his coach once a week. He had not, apparently, run in any full marathons for some time although he was still hoping to compete in the London marathon in 2011 and still hoping to one day win the title of being the oldest person ever to compete in a marathon. Fauja had been running competitively, however — as part of a relay marathon team called “Sikhs in the City.” (In 2009 the total age of the team was 336 years.)

Fauja Singh ran in the Hong Kong marathon in 2014 — and then retired from running. He continued walking every day and helping in the organization and promotion of races.
